During a grant celebration on November 15, the Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta was pleased to award $135,440 in Community Impact Grants to 28 organizations.
The Community Impact Grants program is the Foundation’s main granting program and supports a wide range of community projects. Funds for this granting program come from our Community Impact Fund, which has been established through the donations of many generous donors wanting to make a difference in their communities. By asking charities to apply for grants twice a year, the Foundation is able to distribute funds to the charities best suited to meet the most pressing needs in southwestern Alberta.
“It is great to see the impact that our grants have on people throughout our communities,” says Dianne King, Community Foundation President. “We know that even a small amount can make a big difference to so many organizations.”
Much of the southwestern Alberta region was represented at the Grant Celebration event, including Barons, Claresholm, Crowsnest Pass, Enchant, Glenwood, Granum, Lethbridge, Magrath, Pincher Creek, Stavely, Warner, Waterton and Taber. Attendees also got to hear a more in-depth explanation about three of the projects being supported through a Community Impact Grant with presentations from the Hillcrest Mine Disaster Centennial Committee, the Taber Food Bank Society and Westminster Elementary School.
Says Nancy Brown, Principal of Westminster Elementary School regarding their grant to support the re- building of the school’s playground: “This grant will help to change our kids’ lives. Seeing the community come together to support such a worthwhile project is truly magical.”
Pincher Creek recipients were Group Group Youth Society of Pincher Creek - Van Project, and the Pincher Creek and District Historical Society Pioneer - Village Car Barn.
In the Crowsnest Pass recipients included: Crowsnest Historical Society - Provincial Police Barracks restoration, Crowsnest Heritage Initiative - Hillcrest Mine Centennial project, and the Crowsnest Pass Women's Resource and Crisis Centre Society - 40 Developmental Assets project. The Crisis Centre recipients could not attend.
Two nearby community recipients included Glenwood Aged Cheese Club for the Community Hall Exterior Painting project, and the Canyon Church Camp from Waterton for their Raise the Roof project.
