Man arrested after performing indecent act in front of Fort Macleod children


On Wednesday September 11th, 2013 at approximately 3:30 in the afternoon the Fort Macleod RCMP received a report that an indecent act was witnessed by youth in the community while they were walking home after their school day.

A male driving blue car had approached the youth near the F.P. Walshe High School in Fort Macleod and was performing an indecent sexual act that was made visible to the young witnesses. The youth immediately reported this activity to their parents who informed the RCMP of the subject and vehicle description. With assistance from concerned parents the police were able to quickly locate and apprehend the suspect.

The suspect, a 29 year old male, was arrested and charged with two counts of indecent exposure to persons under the age of 16. The subject was released from custody by the Justice of the Peace with conditions and restrictions applicable to the nature of the offence.

James Jonathan Bryshun is set to appear in Fort Macleod Provincial court on Wednesday September 18th at 10:00 am.

The Fort Macleod RCMP would like to thank the public for the prompt reporting of this incident which assisted in the quick identification and apprehension of this individual.

Human remains found in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park

On September 16th, 2013, a hiker in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park discovered what he believed to be human remains.  The Kananaskis RCMP were called, and the scene secured until the RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Unit could attend and examine the scene.

The remains located were forwarded to the Medical Examiner's office, and have been confirmed to be human.  The RCMP is working with the Medical Examiner's office to attempt to identify this person.  The RCMP Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of these remains,

The RCMP Forensic Identification Unit is currently still on scene, and is continuing its search for additional remains with the assistance of the Foothills Search and Rescue Team.

No identification of this person has yet been made.  Once completed, further information will be released.

Two Hills RCMP Intercept Drugs at Motor Vehicle Collision

On September 17th, 2013, Two Hills RCMP responded to a 2 vehicle collision on Highway 45, East of Two Hills.

Two Hills RCMP with the assistance of the RCMP Traffic Analyst, remained on scene for the better part of the afternoon, analyzing the scene to determine the cause of the incident. While conducting the investigation, RCMP Officers located approximately 8.7 ounces of marihuana with an approximate street value of $2,000.00 along with anabolic steroids and other paraphernalia.

The male driver was subsequently arrested for Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purposes of Trafficking, Breach of Conditions and Possession of a Controlled Substance Over 30 Grams.

It is believed that the marihuana located was destined for communities in the Eastern and Central Alberta area. RCMP Officers believe that the marihuana could have been distributed to over 240 people.

Drug unit seizes large quantity of heroin and cocaine

The Strathcona County RCMP Drug Unit has arrested one individual after a month long investigation into the trafficking of heroin and cocaine in Strathcona County.

As a result of the investigation, RCMP executed a search warrant on Wednesday July 11, 2013 at a residential address in Edmonton where police discovered approximately one kilogram of cocaine, one kilogram of heroin, approximately 4000 Fentanyl tablets, a small amount of Oxycodone, approximately $11,000.00 cash, a loaded .45 calibre handgun and an additional 1000 rounds of ammunition along with brass knuckles and a switchblade.


Neil Jairath, age 20 of Edmonton, was arrested at the residence without incident and has been charged with:

  • Proceeds of Crime Over $5000.00
  • Five Counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm
  • Possession of a Loaded Firearm
  • Possession of a Firearm Without a Licence
  • Knowingly Possess a Firearm Without a Licence
  • Possession of a Prohibited Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon Obtained During the Commission of an Offence
  • Nine Counts of Breach of Recognizance (pertaining to unrelated drug matters)


Jairath was taken before a Justice of the Peace where he was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Sherwood Park Provincial Court on Wednesday September 18 at 9:30 a.m.

Fire at Grande Prairie storage compound

Grande Prairie RCMP are investigating a fire reported on Sunday September 15, 2013 at approximately 5:00 a.m. at a storage compound located on 92nd Street and 107th Avenue.

The fire involved two holiday campers/recreational vehicles (RV's) parked at the north end of the fenced compound. One of the campers was completely destroyed and the second camper sustained damage to the side adjacent to the first. Estimated damage is unknown at this time.

Alberta Integrated Traffic Services and the Tour of Alberta wrap up

The Alberta Integrated Traffic Services would like to take this opportunity to thank all Albertans who were directly or indirectly impacted by the Tour of Alberta bicycle race on Alberta roads.  The Integrated Traffic Units were happy to be part of the traffic safety surrounding this race by ensuring the safety of participants, motorists and communities impacted during the event.  The race was an international event that was successful as a direct result of the participation of organizations and of individuals in the true spirit of community engagement, who may have been delayed by the passing of the race.  Officers reported that delayed motorists stepped out of their vehicles and enjoyed watching the race alongside other members of the community.

“There were no reported traffic related issues or concerns during this major international sporting event.  The results speak for themselves - a successful race and Alberta communities that shone under the international spotlight", says Superintendent Howard Eaton, Officer in Charge of the RCMP “K” Division Traffic Services.    “Congratulations and thank you for your part in making this a successful event.”

Busy day for Canmore RCMP

On September 15th, in the late evening, Canmore RCMP responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Highway 1 near Dead Man’s Flats where a tractor trailer rolled over. The West-bound lanes were closed for a number of hours while the vehicle was righted and removed. The driver sustained minor injuries in the collision.

During this period the Canmore RCMP also responded to 6 calls for disturbances, and arrested and charged 2 impaired drivers.

The RCMP reminds motorists that school is back in session, and that school children are active in school zones and playgrounds. Be aware when driving, and obey the posted speed limits in school and playground zones.  Compliance will be enforced by members of the RCMP and photo radar.


RCMP Picture Butte Thefts and Mischief, vandalism in Nobleford

Sometime between July 26th and July 30th there was a theft of approximately 100 joints of 2 3/8" production tubing from a battery North of Picture Butte. The person(s) came in to the battery and loaded the pipe on to a trailer and left in an unknown direction. There was a 1 ton Pick-up truck seen in the area with a 25' goose neck flat deck trailer hauling pipe.

On the evening of September 6th or early morning of September 7th, a person(s) smashed the community announcement board outside of the Post Office in Nobleford.

In the early morning hours of September 13th, there was mischief to a vending machine at the Gas King in Picture Butte when thieves tried to cut open a vending machine and steal then cash box from it. Also around the same time in Picture Butte, 2 or more persons stole lengths for Copper power wire from Crop Production Services. The thieves cut the power wire to the machinery and took some extension cords as well.

Motor Vehicle Collision with Cyclist in Brooks

Brooks RCMP are requesting assistance from the community in locating the driver for the following incident:

At approximately 5:30 PM on Monday September 16th, 2013, a newer model red Jeep Compass entered into a collision with a 21 year old female riding her bicycle on 7 Street West, near the intersection of Cassils Road West in Brooks. The male driver of this Jeep is described as Caucasian, in his 30’s, with short brown hair.
