Shortly after 8:00 am, Tuesday December 10, 2013 the Turner Valley RCMP POLICE received a call of a school bus, carrying children that had rolled onto it's side on Coalmine Road in Priddis, Alberta.
EMS and fire crews were on scene upon police arrival. Four children and the driver of the bus were removed and treated. One youth was sent to local hospital with minor injuries. The bus company contacted parents and arrangements were made to reunite them with their children.
Investigation has shown that the driver of the bus pulled to the side to allow another vehicle to pass. The bus was traveling at a very low speed when it was pulled into the steep ditch where it rolled onto it's side. Blowing snow and icy road conditions existed at scene and contributed to this incident.
Although no charges will come from this incident police would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to use extra caution when driving in winter road conditions. Leave plenty of space between vehicles, plan to leave your home earlier to get places, and share the road with other drivers.
Cold Lake RCMP investigating two Fatal Motor Vehicle Collisions
Cold Lake RCMP are investigating two separate fatal motor vehicle collisions that occurred on December 9, 2013.
At approximately 1:30 pm Bonnyville RCMP officers received a complaint of a semi trailer collision on secondary highway 659 and range road 442. Bonnyville and Cold Lake detachment officers responded and it was determined that a semi trailer tanker unit had pulled over to allow for a wide load to pass, then over corrected crossing the centre line striking one of the pilot truck's before rolling over on it. The 57 year old lone male occupant from Marshall, Saskatchewan was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi trailer was taken to a local hospital with undetermined injuries.
At 6:05 pm Cold Lake RCMP officers were dispatched of a three vehicle collision on secondary highway 892 two kilometres south of highway 55. A northbound vehicle lost control, crossed the centre line and struck a southbound pick up truck. As a result the passenger of the northbound vehicle was ejected and ended up in the east ditch. A second northbound vehicle, in effort to avoid the collision entered the east ditch and struck the passenger that had been ejected. The 22 year old male from Thorold, Ontario died as a result of injuries sustained in this collision. The driver of the first vehicle was airlifted to hospital in Edmonton suffering from serious injuries and the operator of the southbound vehicle was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. It was determined that the deceased was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the initial collision.
Both matters are still under investigation with the assistance of Bonnyville RCMP Detachment and the St. Paul Collision Re Constructionist. Alcohol was not a factor in either collisions, however road condition may have played a role.
Names of both deceased are being with held pending notification of the next of kin and out of respect for the families.

RCMP Red Deer City investigate fraudulent bank card use
Red Deer City RCMP have recently received several complaints about bank card fraud from people who were still in possession of their bank cards. An investigation has determined that debit machines were compromised at several Red Deer businesses, allowing thieves to steal bank card information when victims entered their bank card PIN (personal identification number) to pay for purchases. That stolen information was then used to clone the bank cards for use in the USA, where bank terminals do not require a chip the way that Canadian bank terminals do. Some of the compromised debit machines have been seized from local businesses.
If you see that your bank card has been used fraudulently, RCMP advise you to contact your bank immediately and to report the fraud to the Red Deer City RCMP complaint line at 403-343-5575.

RCMP Blackfalds investigating Mischief to rural mail boxes and Theft of Mail
Between Sunday December 8 and Monday December 9, 2013 unknown suspects knocked over, damaged and entered rural post office boxes along C & E Trail west of Red Deer. The Blackfalds RCMP are investigating multiple complaints of mischief and theft of mail from these mail boxes. Unknown suspects also damaged lights on entry gates to homes along C & E Trail. Blackfalds RCMP are continuing their investigation and are asking the public who may have knowledge of these incidents to contact Crimestoppers or the Blackfalds RCMP.
Blackfalds RCMP are also reminding rural residents who receive their mail in rural mail boxes to collect their mail frequently. With the Christmas season there is more mail with cash and small gifts being sent to love ones. This presents an increased incentive for thieves to enter the mail boxes looking for their loot.
Pay It Forward on behalf of the RCMP
With the holiday season upon us, the generous people and businesses of Grande Prairie have began to show their appreciation for the members and staff of the Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment by dropping off gifts for the police and staff of the Grande Prairie Detachment. These gifts often take the form of food and baked items. Although it is very much appreciated, the RCMP have a strict policy that prevents us from accepting gifts or tokens of gratitude. Furthermore, in previous years the detachment has often received more food that can be consumed resulting in a lot of waste.
This year the RCMP ask that in lieu of dropping off gifts of food for the detachment members and staff that you please make a donation to a local charity or a food bank in our name. We would be proud to serve the city and community through your acts of generosity.
On behalf of all the Grande Prairie Detachment police officers and staff we want to wish everyone a very happy holiday season and a prosperous, safe and happy 2014.
