Matthew Halton School's Hawks hosted the Crowsnest Pass Pandas for a Junior A volleyball game on Tuesday, October 22.

Each of these teams played in the Matthew Halton Showdown that occurred a couple of weeks ago (click here for that story).  During that tourney these two teams were close to each other in the standings.  Both teams have improved and they still are very close in ability.

Many of the girls have been working on their skills.  Claire, Maia and Erica of the Hawks have improved not just in their skills but in communicating better within the team.  Hawks Coach Renee Van Loon feels that all the girls had been improving, each and every game.  "This was a difficult game.  It was a decider of who goes to Zones."

Pandas Megan and Tiana both have improved and are good at thinking on the go throughout the game.  Panda's Coach Karin Tsang said that "Macey and Sam did a good job in blocking and hitting."

The Pandas were victorious in the first set by a narrow 25-21 margin.  In the second set the Hawks came back, tying up the match by winning the set 25 - 20.  The third set could have gone either way at many points, but the Pandas edged out the Hawks by two points, winning it 25 - 23, making the Pandas the victors of the match.

The Hawks Junior A Girls will be going to Claresholm on October 26, and are scheduled to have a home game against Kainai on Tuesday, October 29.

Junior A Boys Panthers
The 6 boys on the Boys Junior A volleyball Crowsnest Pass Panthers team also came to Pincher Creek to play the Hawks Boys.  Unfortunately, several of the Hawks have been injured playing other sports and the game had to be cancelled.  Crowsnest Pass Coach Matt Hennig said of his team, "They have been coming along.  They've all been working hard."  The team currently has four wins and two losses.  They plan to attend Zones in Taber November 1 and 2, and the league finals in Pincher Creek November 8 and 9.
