10 to 20 centimetres of snow in the Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek, and Waterton Lakes National Park areas is anticipated by by Sunday night, October 27.
A low pressure system developing in Northeastern British Columbia will drop rapidly southward along the foothills tonight and Sunday. Precipitation associated with the system may start as rain this evening but will quickly change to snow. Snowfall amounts of 10 to 15 centimetres are expected by Sunday evening for most areas although the foothills could see local amounts over 20 centimetres.
A potent cold front will also drop southward bringing gusty northeasterly winds up to 60 km/h and reduced visibilities in blowing snow. As well, temperatures will drop significantly from above seasonal today to below the freezing point on Sunday.
Note: snowfall warnings require snowfall accumulations of 10 centimetres in 12 hours. Weather warnings are issued for regions that will receive their first snowfall of the season with accumulations of at least 5 centimetres.
