Flood Watch advisory for Crowsnest Pass


Flood Watch update at 12:40 pm, June 16, 2014 from Environment Alberta and Alberta Emergency Alert:

A Flood Watch has been issued for the Wallaceville Area of High River, Crowsnest River and Willow Creek. A High Streamflow Advisory has been issued for streams/rivers in the Bow, Oldman, Milk and South Saskatchewan River basins.

Water level rises of between 1 and 2 metres can be expected to occur over the next several days based on the current weather forecast. Conditions are being monitored, and advisories will be revised as necessary should the weather system shift. The River Forecast Centre has been in close contact with the emergency managers in the advisory area.

Crowsnest River Flood Watch: the forecast water level rise is approximately 1 m, this may exceed a known flood threshold near Frank by 10-20 cm.


Rainfall warnings issued by Environment Canada at 4:39 am MDT Monday June 16, 2014:

A low pressure system moving into the northern United States will bring significant rainfall to southern Alberta. The heaviest rain will begin this afternoon with total amounts of 50 to 80 millimetres expected before rainfall tapers off Wednesday morning. Development of the system will be monitored and warnings may be expanded.

Rainfall warnings in effect for:

  • M.D. of Pincher Creek near Beauvais Lake Provincial Park, near Cowley Burmis and Maycroft, near Pincher Creek and Twin Butte
  • M.D. of Ranchland
  • Municipality of Crowsnest Pass including Coleman and Frank
  • Piikani Reserve
  • Waterton Lakes National Park
  • Blood Reserve including Stand Off
  • Cardston County near Cardston and Carway
  • M.D. of Willow Creek near Fort Macleod, near Granum and Peigan Timber Limit
  • Kananaskis I.D. near Highwood and Cataract Creek, near Kananaskis Village
  • M.D. of Bighorn near Canmore Exshaw and Ghost Lake, near Ghost River Wilderness

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.
