Fatal Collision on Highway 2A near Wetaskiwin
On October 22, 2013, shortly after 9:00 pm, Wetaskiwin RCMP, along with the Millet Fire Department and Peace Hills EMS, responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 2A near Township road 472, north of Wetaskiwin, AB.
With the assistance of the RCMP Collision Reconstructionist, the investigation revealed that a southbound motor vehicle crossed over into the northbound lane, colliding first with an oncoming pickup truck, and then with an oncoming van. The driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene and its passenger, along with the occupants of the other vehicles, were transported by ambulance to hospital.
RCMP continue to investigate whether alcohol was a factor in this collision, and the name of the deceased will not be released pending notification of next of kin.
Fatal Pedestrian Motor Vehicle Collision in St. Albert
At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013, St. Albert RCMP was dispatched to motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on Boudreau Road in front of the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert, Alberta. An 85 year old female pedestrian was crossing westbound on the crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Boudreau Road. The pedestrian was transported to an Edmonton Hospital and at approximately 1:00 p.m. she passed away.
Next of Kin notifications have been completed. The name of the deceased is being withheld in respect of the family's wishes. The 85 year old female that died in this collision was a resident of St. Albert, AB. The 78 year old female driver of the vehicle that hit the 85 year old pedestrian is also a resident of St. Albert, AB.
Road, weather, and alcohol are not considered factors in this collision. The investigation is on-going.
Discharge of a Firearm in Berwyn
On October 20th, 2013 at approximately 7:55 am Peace Regional RCMP responded to a 911 call of shots being fired at a residence in the Village of Berwyn, Alberta.
Police attended to the scene where one male occupant of the residence was located suffering from non life threatening injuries and was transported to a regional hospital for treatment. Investigation in to this shooting is ongoing and Police believe that this shooting was not a random act.
Minor Injury School Bus Collision in Turner Valley area
On Tuesday October 22 at shortly after 8:00 a.m., RCMP attended the scene of a single school bus rollover, 2 Km North of 254 Avenue on 192 Street in the MD of Foothills. Emergency services attended from several areas. Nine children ranging from 5 to 12 years of age were treated at the scene for minor injuries. All occupants of the bus which was turned on it side, were able to exit on their own. Roads were bare and visibility was good at the time. The investigation continues.
Brooks RCMP are requesting the assistance of the public to help solve a theft of several meters of rig-cable that had occurred in the industrial area near Martin Way in Brooks Alberta. The cable was described as a large diameter, single conductor, insulated copper wire.
The theft occurred sometime over the night of October 22, 2013, at about 02:00 am where the suspect(s) cut a lock to a secured fenced compound taking three small wooden reels containing the wire. The suspect(s) also unraveled wire from two additional larger reels, leaving the reels on site and drove off in an unknown make/model truck.

Theft of power tools in Lloydminster caught on security camera
The Lloydminster Municipal R.C.M.P. are requesting the public's assistance in locating the person responsible for a theft of Power Tools from Home Hardware. On July 19, 2013, a male entered the store’s tool department, taking two hard cases with Hitachi drills from the shelf. The value of the two items is over $800.00. Below are photos acquired from the store's video surveillance system.

Taxi crashes into Millennium Place recreation facility
On October 21 at approximately 6:50 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP and Strathcona County Emergency Services responded to a serious motor vehicle collision at Millennium Place located in Sherwood Park.
A mini-van taxi being driven by a 42 year old male from Edmonton was traveling north in the east side parking lot of Millennium Place. The taxi struck a Lexus SUV in the parking lot and after this initial collision the taxi appeared to gain speed when it crashed through the southeast entrance to Millennium Place. The taxi continued into the lobby area where a 41 year old male was struck by the taxi.

Both the driver of the taxi and the male struck in the lobby were taken by ambulance to a hospital in Edmonton with serious injuries. The female driver of the Lexus was also taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Early indications suggest that alcohol was not a factor in the collision with preliminary information suggesting that the driver of the taxi may have had a medical incident prior to the collision.
Strathcona County RCMP and a RCMP Collision Analyst continue to investigate the collision and are expected to be on scene for several more hours. As a result of the collision there was significant damage to the southeast entrance to Millennium Place. This area was roped off along with the lobby area inside the building. The facility remains open with only access to the gymnasium not available at this time.
Updates will be provided when new information is available.
Youths shot at (possibly with airsoft gun) from passing vehicle in Hinton
On October 22, 2013 at approx 8:30 pm Hinton RCMP responded to a complaint of two youths who had been shot by what is believed to have been an airsoft gun by occupants of a passing vehicle. The youths received minor injuries which did not require medical treatment.
The suspect vehicle is described as an older model Volkswagen with purple tinted windows and the exterior was either sandblasted or painted in grey primer. No licence plate was obtained. The suspect vehicle was believed to have been occupied by two males and a female at the time of the offence.

Bull stolen from Willingdon/Lamont County area pasture
Sometime after September 25, 2013 a red simmental bull went missing or was stolen from a pasture located near Range Road 161 and Township 560. The bull is described as having a red body, a white head, and red goggles around both eyes.
Two Hills RCMP asking for the public's assistance locating the bull or identifying person(s) responsible for the theft. The public are also encouraged to call immediately regarding any suspicious activity, especially in the overnight or early morning hours. Drug and Stolen Property Arrests in Lloydminster
On October 19, 2013, at approximately 3:15 p.m. Lloydminster RCMP Det. with the assistance of K Division Emergency Response Team executed a drug search warrant at 4624 - 49 Street Lloydminster, SK. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of cocaine, methamphetamine, stolen property and a replica handgun. The following people were charged and will appear in Saskatchewan Provincial Court in Lloydminster on November 25, 2013:
- Markus BAUER 27 yrs of Lloydminster, SK. marihuana possession for purpose of trafficking.
- Amanda ARMSTRONG 23yrs of Lloydminster, SK possession of stolen property, possession of cocaine.
- Larissa MOYAH 22yrs of Lloydminster, SK possession of stolen property, possession of cocaine.
- Jason MACALONEY 39yrs of Lloydminster, SK possession of stolen property, possession of methamphetamine
- Roseanne MOYAH 42yrs of Lloydminster, SK arrested on outstanding warrants.

Olds RCMP execute CDSA Search Warrant
On October 20, 2013, at approximately 11:28 pm members of the Olds RCMP detachment executed a search warrant in the Olds Trailer Park, Olds, Alberta. The search warrant had been related to an on-going investigation and complaints received from the public.
Once inside members located a small amount of cannabis marihuana as well as cannabis marihuana plants being grown.
As a result of the search warrant, a 56 year old female resident has been charged with Trafficking a Controlled substance and Production of a controlled substance. A 17 year old male has also been charge with possession of a controlled substance. Both subjects have been released from custody on Promises to Appear with conditions imposed for a court appearance in Didsbury Provincial Court for November 25, 2013.
RCMP Leduc Media Summary – October 20, 2013:
66 Year Old Stony Plain Male Charged With Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle
On October 19th, 2013 at approximately 3:00 p.m., Leduc RCMP members were dispatched to a call where a vehicle was said to have struck the fuel pumps at Swenson General Store in Rollyview. Witnesses told police that a man driving a gold colour 1996 Pontiac Transport van struck the Fuel pumps when entering the parking lot at the Service station and was trying to leave the area before police arrived. Witnesses indicated that the man appeared to be severely intoxicated at the time of the collision.
After an Investigation by the Leduc RCMP, Earnest Ronald Stapleton of Stony Plain Alberta, was arrested and charged with:
- Impaired operation of a motor vehicle over 80mg%
- Impaired operation of a motor vehicle by alcohol
- Drive uninsured motor vehicle on a highway
Attempted Theft From Vehicles In Leduc
On October 20th, 2013 at approximately 11:15 p.m., The Leduc RCMP received a call of suspicious males walking around parked vehicles on 47 street and Blackgold drive. Witnesses noted that these individuals wearing dark clothing and hoodies with the hood pulled all the way up appeared to be checking doors on the parked vehicles to see if they were locked or not. The suspicious males were confronted by one of the witnesses before leaving the scene and before police arrived.
The Leduc RCMP are encouraging residents to secure their personal belongings and remove them from their vehicles and be sure to lock their doors before leaving their vehicles unattended, and to report all suspicious activity to their local police detachment at (780) 980-7200. Leduc Integrated Traffic Services Making Alberta Roads Safer
The Leduc Integrated Traffic Services Unit along with the Leduc RCMP were busy conducting traffic stops over the Long Weekend. The Integrated Traffic Services Unit has issued over 1020 driving related charges on Highway 2 in the Leduc Area in the past 2 months, a highlight of the more serious violations are as follows:

On October 15th, 2013, a mobile radar speed trailer was purposefully tipped over and it sustained substantial damage.
On October 18th at approximately 5:30 p.m. Canmore RCMP responded to call of a theft of a bicycle from Rebound Cycle. Staff allowed a customer to take a bike on a “test ride”, and the customer failed to return the bicycle. The suspect is described as an Asian male in his 20’s wearing a yellow windbreaker jacket.
On October 21st at approximately 7:00 p.m. Canmore RCMP received a report that two hikers in their 20’s were lost in the Pigeon Mountain area. Kananaskis Emergency Services attempted to locate the hikers, but were unable to before nightfall. One of the hikers was able to communicate via cellular phone. The hikers were rescued via helicopter early on the 22nd. No injuries were reported.
During this period the Canmore RCMP also responded to 11 calls for disturbances, arrested and charged 1 impaired driver, and dealt with over 25 driving complaints and infractions.
The Canmore RCMP reminds motorists that children are back in school, and, as such, they should be aware and drive with caution in and around school and playground zones.

RCMP Edmonton Major Crime Unit and Lac La Biche officers seeking public assistance is locating three individuals
The RCMP Major Crime Unit is currently investigating a suspicious occurrence reported to the Lac La Biche RCMP, Friday night, October 18, 2013. The circumstances and examination of the residence where this incident occurred, lead police to believe that one or more persons sustained serious injuries.
RCMP officers are still trying to determine the details of what occurred and are seeking assistance from the public in locating the three following individuals.
The three males are:
- Jonathan Christopher Lee MASON, 26-year-old of Lac La Biche
- Brent Dustin BULL, 29-year-old of Lac La Biche
- Justin UPTON, 28-year-old of Lac La Biche
These individuals may be either in the Edmonton or the Lac La Biche area. It is to be noted that Justin UPTON and Jonathan MASON have ties to British Columbia.

Stolen Vehicle Crashes Into Grande Prairie Home
RCMP continue to investigate after a stolen pick-up truck rammed another vehicle and then crashed into a home in the vicinity of Lakeland Dr. and 123rd Avenue around the noon hour today. A female suspect is still at large.
On the afternoon of October 21 at approximately 12:20 p.m. a witness observed a stolen vehicle and tried to follow it. When the stolen vehicle was followed into a cul-du-sac it rammed the vehicle in order to escape. The stolen pick-up truck proceeded out of the cul-du-sac and traveled south on Lakeland Dr. where it lost control and crashed into the side of a house. The female suspect was seen exiting the truck and fleeing east on foot through an easement.
Police quickly arrived on scene and immediately set up an area of containment to allow a police dog to track the suspect. Unfortunately, the female was not located and is still at large. The female is described as white, approximately 20 years of age with dirty blonde hair, wearing a brown toque, a grey sweater and carrying a grey purse.
Fortunately, no one was injured but there was a significant amount of damage to the house and property where the stolen vehicle left the roadway and collided with the residence.

Multi-Agency Checkstops conducted in Caroline area
On Monday, October 14, 2013, members of the Rocky RCMP Detachment, Red Deer RCMP Traffic Section, Alberta Fish & Wildlife Officer's and Alberta Sheriff's conducted a 6 hour checkstop at various locations in and around the Caroline area. Officers concentrated on checking for Wildlife Act and Traffic Safety Act offences.
Approximately 800 vehicles were checked resulting in the following charges:
2 - Controlled Drug and Substance Act charges,
14 - Moving violations (speeding, seatbelts),
18 - Non-moving violations (fail to produce documents,unregistered/uninsured motor vehicle),
7 - Liquor related violations,
6 - Wildlife Act Violations,
8 - Warrants executed,
12 - Child Seat compliance checks,
In excess of 30 written and verbal warnings issued.
Local enforcement agencies will continue to participate in joint checkstops in the Rocky Mountain House detachment area this fall and into the Christmas season. Please do not drink and drive.
