Fire Safe stolen from Fort Macleod residence

Sometime between the night of October 2, 2013 and October 7, 2013 a personal fire safe was stolen from a residence in the 400 block of 11th Street in Fort Macleod, Alberta. Legal documents, 3 one ounce gold bars, several one ounce vials of gold dust, and a set of wedding bands were inside the safe.
 
The RCMP are continuing to investigating this incident and are seeking public assistance in identifying any suspects. Anyone that may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to provide are asked to contact the Fort Macleod RCMP at 403 553-7200 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

RCMP Canmore Investigates Break and Enter, Sexual Assault

On November 1st, 2013 at approximately 11:00 pm, an adult female found an unknown adult male had entered her home. The unknown man attacked the woman, but she was able to fight him off and flee her residence. The victim sustained minor injuries in the attack.

Canmore RCMP attended and began an investigation with the assistance of the RCMP’s Forensic Identification Unit. A suspect has not been identified to date. A composite drawing of the suspect is being prepared and will be circulated when available. Due to investigative information gathering, this information is being released at this time.

The suspect is described as:

  • adult Caucasian male
  • approximately 6 feet tall
  • slim build
  • short brown hair
  • angular face with no noticeable scars or tattoos

Two males charged after Okotoks spray-painting spree

On the early morning of November 2, 2013 Okotoks RCMP were called to the area of Alberta Avenue, Okotoks after two males were seen in the area with spray paint.  Multiple areas in the neighborhood had been spray painted including two vehicles, roads and sidewalks.  RCMP determined the spray paint had been stolen from another vehicle in the area.  Police subsequently located and arrested two 17 year old males.

The males, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, have each been charged with one count of mischief not exceeding $5000.00 and theft not exceeding $5000.00.  One of the males was also charged with possession of a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  Both males are scheduled to appear in Court in January.

Multiple Collisions on Highway 2 between Calgary and Didsbury

Between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2013, members of the Airdrie Integrated Traffic Unit have responded to 2 injury collisions and an additional 8 property damage collisions on Highway 2 between the Calgary city limits and Didsbury.

The first injury collision occurred at 12:20 PM on Highway 2 near Crossfield.




A 1995 Geo passenger car lost control on the southbound lanes of the highway, went through the cable barrier in the center median, and collided with a Ford F150 traveling northbound.

The female driver of the Geo was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The male driver of the Ford was not injured.
The second injury collision also occurred on Highway 2 near Crossfield, at about 2:00 pm.

A full size Toyota van traveling southbound lost control and careened into a Honda Civic traveling in the same direction.

A male and female in the Civic were both transported to hospital in Calgary. The male driver of the Toyota was not injured.

Both collisions are under investigation; speed and weather conditions are being investigated as factors in both crashes

Theft of Tools from Town of Two Hills
 
On October 30th, 2013, Two Hills RCMP received a report that tools were stolen from the Town of Two Hills public works yard.
 
Some time overnight, unknown person(s) entered the unlocked public works yard and stole tools from a Town of Two Hills vehicle. Missing are a tool box clearly marked with 'Town of Two Hills' containing wrenches and screwdrivers that had been dipped in yellow paint,  water meters, and a fire extinguisher. The value of the tools missing is greater than $500. This marks yet another recent incident where the Town of Two Hills has been the victim of a crime which ultimately costs tax-payers money or results in reduced spending elsewhere to maintain and improve the town. Ultimately, everyone living or doing business in Two Hills are affected by these crimes, and the public can play a crucial role in preventing or solving these crimes by reporting suspicious activity.

Charges laid in Red Deer City Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

On November 3rd, 2013 Red Deer City RCMP advise that one charge of Impaired Driving Causing Death has been laid against 18 year old Tyler James WILSON of Brooks, AB. The deceased male was identified as 33 year old Jonathon David WOOD from Red Deer. The investigation is on going. Tyler WILSON will make his first court appearance in Red Deer on November 4th, 2013.

Fatality after two vehicle collision on Highway 23 near Vulcan
 
On November 2, 2013 at approximately 8:25 a.m. Vulcan RCMP were dispatched to a two vehicle collision on Highway 23 near Township Road 164 south of Vulcan, AB.  Vulcan Fire and EMS also attended the scene.
 
As a result of the investigation, it was determined a northbound pickup truck entered the southbound lane.  A southbound SUV then entered the northbound lane.  The pickup truck corrected back into the northbound lane striking the SUV head on.  Both vehicles came to rest in the east ditch, with the pickup truck becoming engulfed in flames.
 
Helen LEPP, driver of the SUV, was pronounced deceased on scene by attending EMS personnel.  Esther MENSINGER, passenger in the SUV, was transported to Calgary Foothills Hospital by Ambulance in critical condition.  A 16 year old male was the driver and lone occupant of the pickup truck.  He was transported by STARS to Calgary Foothills Hospital in stable condition.
 
Alcohol and road conditions were not a factor in this collision.  The collision is under investigation and no charges have been laid at this time.  Highway 23 was closed for approximately 4.5 hours due to the collision.

RCMP Red Deer City Investigates Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

On November 2nd, 2013 at approximately 3:30 a.m. the Red Deer City RCMP and Red Deer Emergency Services were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of 30th Avenue and 32nd Street.

The investigation has revealed that an Alberta Gold Taxi was stopped at the intersection facing northbound when a truck traveling north rear-ended the taxi.
 
At the time the taxi was under hire and had a sole occupant in the rear passenger seat.  The collision caused extensive damage on impact to the taxi cab and the truck rolled onto its side blocking the intersection.  
 
The passenger of the taxi succumbed to his injuries on scene and the driver was transported to the Red Deer Regional Hospital where he is being treated for serious injury. The driver of the truck was also transported to the hospital where he is currently being treated as well.
 
Weather and road conditions are not considered factors. Police are pursuing all avenues of investigation related to the cause of this collision with the assistance of the RCMP Traffic Analyst.
 
The name of the deceased will not be released pending notification of next of kin.

Two charged with trafficking after Innisfail gas station bust

On October 31, 2013 at 2 AM, Innisfail RCMP detachment members observed what was believed to be a drug transaction near the Fas Gas in Innisfail.  This transaction was occurring between two females in a parked rental car and two unidentified males who approached on foot.  As the vehicle departed, a traffic stop was initiated.  Two females were identified and a subsequent search found bear spray, police baton, pellet pistol, window punch, drug packaging, knife, stolen pre-paid visa card, a counterfeit $50 bill, and One ounce of Methamphetamine, five grams of crack Cocaine, Oxycodone pills and a large amount of cash.  The two males have not been located.

Reinbow HOREL of Calgary Alberta has been charged with 3 counts of Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public, possession of Currency not exceeding $5000.00 knowing that it was obtained by the commission of an offence, possess counterfeit money, carry a concealed weapon, possess proceeds of property, and possession of break enter tools.

Stacey HALVORSON of Calgary Alberta has been charged with 2 counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and 3 counts of fail to comply with the conditions of an undertaking.

Both were remanded in custody.

Break-ins to multiple St. Albert businesses
 
On the night of Tuesday, October 29th, 2013, 7 businesses located at the Sturgeon Plaza Mall, at 1 Hebert Rd.  St Albert, Alberta were broken into. All 7 businesses, were entered by having their back doors forced open and all businesses had undisclosed amounts of cash taken.

Highway 16 oil spill

On 2013-10-31 at approx 1505hrs Kitscoty Detachment received a report that an oil tanker had deposited crude oil on Hwy 16 for a distance of approximately 11km from the intersection of Hwy 16 and 897 to approximately range road 21. It appears that the operator of a tanker truck had failed to properly secure a valve on the tanker which deposited oil on one lane of Hwy 16 in the east bound lane. In some areas there was a significant amount of oil which had leaked from the tanker. There were no collisions reported and no injuries associated to the incident. A number of vehicles were covered with oil and required subsequent cleaning and care.

The truck was stopped and driver identified. Charges under the Dangerous Goods and Transportation Act were laid against the driver of the truck. Environment Canada was notified and further charges against the company under Environmental Acts are pending.
