Toni Lucas, Crowsnest Voice
Crowsnest Consolidated High School hosted the Willow Creek Composite High JV and Senior volleyball teams in a match each on November 5. The JV game of Panthers versus the Cobras started before the Seniors took to the court. Although the JV Panthers took their match in the first 2 of the three sets played, they have to forfeit the match due to having Senior members on the team roster. The Senior Panthers took their match in the first three sets.
The Senior Panthers took to the court and showed what they are capable of during this match. They played the Cobras who are a good team. #7 on both sides of the net (J. Shultz for the Panthers and E. Steel for the Cobras) showed it is not about luck, but skill and perseverance. Both of these boys can jump high, and spike hard. The Panthers J. Shultz #7 demonstrated time and time again a flying serve that was beautiful to watch, as was the consistency of the serve delivered by C. Gunn, wearing Panthers #5. The Panthers took the set 25 - 14.
Cobras #14 B. Lindquist had a solid serve. the second set was a better set to watch, even tying the score at the 5 - 5 mark. The Panthers soon broke ahead and ended the set 25 - 19.
The third set the Cobras were looking a little worn down. They lost ground with some short serves and the set ended 25 - 15, giving the best three out of five to the Panthers in three.
"Overall, the team has progressed over the year, from the start to now. We are playing better than what we have been," said Assistant Coach David Digna. "We are looking forward to Zones. We're ranked out of six teams that are running, I think we're third, so we're in the middle of the pack. Fort Macleod and Immanuel Christian are a little bit ahead of us." The team had played the Immanuel Christian Eagles on the 4th, and the Eagles won the match.
Chase Sciarra-Yeske
Chase Sciarra-Yeske attends grade 1 at Horace Allen School. "I love to write," he said while watching the Panthers versus the Cobras on November 5. Chase showed a story that he had written during the game. Chase would like to be a fire fighter and a mechanic who writes stories when he grows up. He is also working on his flying serve for volleyball.
