AHS offers free safe food handling courses for volunteers

Individuals or groups planning special community events at which food will be served are invited to attend safe food handling courses, offered free of charge by Alberta Health Services (AHS) Environmental Public Health.

These courses help volunteer food handlers and event organizers understand the potential health risks associated with food-borne illnesses, as well as the steps necessary to mitigate those risks. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Because course space is limited, prompt registration is recommended.

Organizers of any special community event at which food will be served are required to notify AHS Environmental Public Health at least 30 days prior to the event taking place. Vendors intending to serve food at these functions must also notify AHS 14 days prior to the event. Restricted events – including private weddings, meetings and retreats – do not require AHS notification.
