Police warn high risk offender may be in Lethbridge

High risk offender Michael Sean Stanley
Lethbridge Regional Police believe that an Edmonton High Risk Offender, who is currently the subject of a multi-province search, has been and may still be in the City of Lethbridge.

Michael Sean Stanley, 48, is a high-risk, violent, sexual offender and poses a risk of significant harm to the community. Stanley has a long history of sexual offences against women and children.

Stanley left Edmonton on October 1, 2013 and his electronic tracking bracelet was later found on the roof of a Lloydminster business. He is now wanted for breaching the conditions of his release.

Stanley has familial ties to Lethbridge and earlier today members of the Lethbridge Regional Police High Risk Offenders (HRO) Unit recovered a purple Chevrolet Blazer that Stanley had been driving. The vehicle was seized from a west side home. Police have now confirmed that Stanley was in the city on October 4, but where he is currently is unknown.

The Lethbridge Regional Police HRO Unit, in partnership with the Edmonton Police Service, continues to investigate and is advising the public to be aware of Stanley’s potential presence in southern Alberta.

“We’re asking the public to look at Mr. Stanley’s photo, be aware that he may still be in the city and call police immediately if they see him,” said Kristen Harding, LRPS Executive Officer. “Mr. Stanley poses a significant risk to the community and we are advising everyone to be vigilant about their safety, but not to take any vigilante action.”

Stanley is described as a 48-year-old Metis male, approximately 5’9”, 190 lbs., with black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone who may have seen Stanley or has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact police at 403-328-4444. In an emergency call 911.
